Vestigo

Motion sickness relief through visual reference

ves·ti·go — a portmanteau of vestibular (relating to the inner ear's balance system) and vertigo (the sensation of spinning or disorientation). The name captures exactly what the app addresses: the conflict between what your vestibular system feels and what your eyes see.

The problem

Motion sickness happens when your inner ear senses movement that your eyes can't confirm. In a car, plane, or train, your vestibular system detects every turn, bump, and acceleration — but if you're looking at a phone or book, your visual system says you're stationary. That mismatch is what makes you feel sick.

How Vestigo helps

Vestigo displays a 3D vehicle on your screen that moves in real time with the motion your body feels. Using your device's gyroscope and accelerometer, it renders a trailing "tailcam" view of a plane, car, or train that banks, pitches, and shifts exactly as you do.

By giving your eyes a visual reference that matches what your inner ear is sensing, Vestigo helps resolve the sensory conflict that causes motion sickness. It's like having a window seat — on your phone.
